Transcending Incentives
& shaking hands with your muse
At different stages of life, we find ourselves motivated by different things.
In youth, we pursue excellence in school via the grade incentive. In early adulthood we pursue higher education via the job security incentive. In early independence we pursue work via the money incentive and so on.
You can continue to follow this thread to an end, and when you reach that end is when you are truly free to pursue your life’s work. There are incentives that run deeper than freedom itself, freedom being one of the highest marks on the incentive pecking order.
These are ideas we’re still toying with, but wanted to drop this note on a weekend to challenge you to find out what you’re being called to do, separate from your incentive mechanisms.
When you align your actions in the world with the calling of this muse, this daemon — you may find yourself beginning to do some truly remarkable things.
